Highway construction in Hailey begins
May 1
The construction project to add additional
lanes to Highway 75 between Airport Way and Fox Acres Road in Hailey will begin
May 1 with initial set-up and traffic information signs, said Hailey City
Engineer Tom Hellen. A traffic signal also will be installed at Fox Acres Road.
Actual construction activities will begin
May 5 at the Airport Way intersection. Additional work will begin at Third and
Fourth Avenue intersections with periodic closure of these intersections for a
period of approximately two months.
Construction work will initially begin
along the northbound lane of Highway 75, with traffic being diverted into the
center turn lane during this work, Hellen said.
Following the last day of school on May
30, Fox Acres Road will be closed to all traffic from June 3 until approximately
July 12. "While this will be a large inconvenience to residents of the area, it
will ultimately shorten the construction period, resulting in an improved
intersection sooner than if traffic was allowed to continue through this
intersection during the construction period," Hellen said.
Airport Way will remain open to traffic
with traffic control personnel present during certain periods of construction.
The contractor selected for this project
is Idaho Sand & Gravel from Jerome. Project manager is Larry Covey. As city
engineer, Hellen has the responsibility for Hailey for this project with
assistance from Toothman-Orton Engineering Company of Boise.
