Monroe, Basolo races bring 265 to Baldy

For slalom, giant slalom


On a sunny weekend, terrific for skiing, Baldy’s Greyhawk ski runs were flooded with 265 young racers from Idaho, Utah and Wyoming.

They competed in Saturday’s Monroe Cup slaloms sponsored by the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation (SVSEF) and Sunday’s Lonnie Basolo Memorial giant slaloms staged by the Hailey Ski Team (HST).

Local skiers excelled in the Hemingway and Cozy gates.

J2s Slater Storey, Kristian Timmons and Hunter Storey of SVSEF podiumed in the J1-J3 Monroe Cup SL. Slater Storey was .90 seconds ahead of Timmons after two runs.

J3 Lauren Eder of SVSEF was a runaway winner by nearly five seconds in the J1-J3 women’s slalom.

Placing second behind Utah winners in the J4-J6 Monroe Cup SLs were Barrett Cincotta and Meghan Luck of HST.

Other local class winners in the Monroe Cup were Abby Dubois, McKenna Peterson, Tristan Brown, Luke Speer and Teagan Palmer.

In Sunday’s Basolo Memorial, SVSEF racers Lauren Parsons and Shanny Cohen went 1-2 in the J1-J3 women’s GS. J2 Parsons prevailed by 1.52 seconds over Cohen.

Owning the J1-J3 men’s podium were SVSEF racers Dixon Mooseau, Slater Storey and Ash Higgins. J3 Mooseau was the winner, by 1.51 seconds over J2 Storey.

J4 Barrett Cincotta moved up a place to win the J4-J6 men’s GS by 3.25 seconds and Meghan Luck captured the bronze among J4-J6 women.

Other local class winners in the Basolo were Shanny Cohen, Conner Farrow and Nicole Roos.
