Horizon
Air will inaugurate a once-daily flight to Boise this winter that should
help facilitate travel to West Coast cities as well as the Midwest.
Beginning
Dec. 15, and running until March 30, the flight will depart Boise at
1:55 p.m., and the return flight will depart Sun Valley at 2:35 p.m.
Flying time in the 37-seat, turboprop plane will be 40 minutes.
The
flights are timed to connect with Horizon flights from Los Angeles, San
Jose, Seattle and Portland, as well as Northwest Airlines flights from
Minneapolis.
"It’s
going to make it easier for people to get here," said Sun
Valley-Ketchum Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Carl Waller.
"We’re usually ranked low in accessibility. Any little
improvement is going to help."
Horizon
has in the past offered flights between Friedman Memorial Airport and
Boise, but has had none recently. Waller said previous flights several
years ago were instituted under a partial funding guarantee from Sun
Valley, but the flights were profitable and the company made no
payments.
An
additional new Horizon service starting Dec. 15 will be a daily, direct
flight between Sun Valley and Los Angeles. That flight will be
year-round.
