In a golf showdown of former Sun Valley Suns hockey players, Dave Hutchinson held off Dick Nelson 4 & 2 to win The Valley Club match play club championship Sunday.

Hutchinson said it wasn’t easy for any of the four men’s semi-finalists, since they had to play an 18-hole qualifying round Friday to make the final-16 cut, followed by 36 holes Saturday and 36 more holes Sunday.

In the semi-finals, Hutchinson beat Dick Shelton on the 20th hole and Nelson stickhandled his way around Jack Dies 1-up.

Women’s club champion was Suzanne Williams 4 & 2 over Jolie Dunn. In the semis it was Williams 5 & 4 over Happy Hawn. Dunn defeated Jeanne Mace on the 19th hole.

First gross—Jack Sholtis 74-78 for 152-140. Second gross—Lou Mace 81-81 for 162-148. First net—Baird Gourlay 80-75 for 155-143. Second net—Latham Williams 76-90 for 166-150.

·  Augusta: 
First gross—Steve Malkmus 81-81 for 162-140. Second gross—Luke Whalen 87-83 for 170-152. First net—Jim Hungelmann 88-82 for 170-152. Second net—Jay Cassell 82-96 for 178-154.

·  Royal Lytham: 
First gross—Jack Hoffman 82-86 for 168-140. Second gross—Jeff Currie 90-88 for 178-146. First net—Ed Karner 81-88 for 169-141. Second net—Jerry Mells 92-94 for 186-142.

·  Pine Needles: 
First gross—Helga Fast 92-88 for 180-148. First net—Barbara Shelton 95-100 for 195-151.
