Nilsen top player on softball list

3A "Player of the Year"

Ashley Nilsen, graduating senior at Hailey’s Wood River High School, has been selected as Idaho Class 3A "Player of the Year," in fast-pitch softball by the Times-News newspaper based in Twin Falls.

Sidelined by a knee injury for entire junior season, Nilsen enjoyed a terrific senior year for Wood River. A strong leader, she also hit .532 with 38 runs scored and 34 RBI and played several positions on defense.

Nilsen’s all-around play sparked Wood River to a state tournament appearance in the 2002 campaign.

Making the Times-News All-Area First Team covering the south central Idaho area in the 5A, 4A, 3A and 2A ranks were Wood River graduating senior B.J. Adams at second base and junior Joni Chatterton at catcher.

The second-team shortstop was graduating senior Laurel Williams.
