given at Wood River
Top citizens,
students honored
Outstanding
students were honored May 15 during Wood River High School's "Teacher
and Citizenship Awards" program for the 2001-02 year in the high
school gym.
Citizenship
Awards were given to 10 deserving high school students. Voted by students,
the Citizenship Awards were distributed to male and female members of the
senior, junior, sophomore and freshman classes.
Senior
Citizenship Award honorees were Kipp Mills, Patrick O’Farrell and Cade
Scanlon. Junior winners were Jessie Woodyard and Kellen Chatterton.
Sophomore
Citizenship Award recipients were Christina Arpp, Beau James and Hunter
Storey. Freshman winners were Marissa Evans and Ted Dankanyin.
Awards for
outstanding performance over four years in science went to Kristen Nelson
and Evan Peebles.
Honored for
outstanding performance over four years in English was Patrick O’Farrell,
who also won the Principal’s Leadership Award.
Taking the
Air Force Award was Matt Beck, while Gariety Pruitt accepted the Daughters
of the American Revolution honor.
Barrett
Tabler was given the $5,000 Ezra Pound Society Award.

David Hormel (Information and Technology) along with Sharon Barto and
Mackenzie Harbaugh (Performing Arts).

debate students were Kyle Risner, Brandon Epp, Andy McCollum, William
Hemmings, Jacob Chaney, Devin Sheffield, Lisa Feldhusen, Brittany Jones,
Ryan Chandler and Gavin Kastner.
Winning the
speech award was Vaughn Neville. Drama award recipient was Molly Keenan.
The John
Philip Sousa Award was given to Aspen Wenglikowski. Winning the National
School Choral Award was Ali Stonebraker.
Family and
Consumer Science honorees were Cale Nottingham and Sydney Leopold (Teen
Living); Ricky Williams and Nicole McAtee (Design & Apparel); Ellie
France and James Cimino (Nutrition & Foods); and Tara Rushton
(Parenting & Child Development).
Christian
Blackman won the Sun Valley Summer Symphony poster contest.
Placing
first in the Spring Economic Summit was the three-member team of James
Fowler, Travis Leach and Monique Lloyd. The first-place team in the Winter
Economic Summit featured Cade Scanlon, Kelly Haisley and Amanda Johnson.
The $100
winner in the FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America)
drawing was Stephanie Rath. Carrie Ragsdale collected $50 as winner of the
"Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" game.
Parent
Association $25 drawing winners were Mackenzie Harbaugh, Kent Grimes,
Vaughn Neville, Pia Shivdasani, Monique Lloyd, Angela Domke, Jessica
