Ketchum Korral
cabins now long-term rent
units

One of
Ketchum’s most nostalgic old lodging properties has been removed from
the short-term market this spring.
Cabins at
Ketchum Korral, which changed owners last year, are advertised for
long-term rent—first, last, deposit and all.
"They
decided they didn’t want to keep it in the overnight lodging
business," said Tim Eagan, who managed the property until early May.
"They thought there was more of a need for the affordable housing
component."
Cabins
advertised in the Idaho Mountain Express classifieds two weeks ago will
rent at between $550 and $650 per month.
Eagan would
not disclose the names of the property’s new owners, and phone calls
placed by the Mountain Express responding to the classified ads were not
returned.
But
according to a press release from Eagan, "The long term plans for the
property are being evaluated, but it is hoped that at least a portion of
the property will remain as one of Ketchum’s enduring landmarks."
However,
renovation plans for the property were scrapped this spring without much
explanation, and a scheduled planning and zoning commission hearing was
canceled.
The plans
would have just about doubled the number of units on the existing property
and on an adjacent lot, Ketchum Senior Planner Harold Moniz said. They
would have maintained the same motif, and probably would have maintained
or added to the city’s shrinking short-term rental stock.
