Snowmobiles
will once again be able to operate on Idaho Department of Transportation
rights of way through Hailey this winter.
With some
reservations and conditions, the Hailey Planning and Zoning Commission
granted the Blaine County Recreation District the conditional use permit
so that snowmobilers can access snowmobile areas in and around Hailey.
This is the 11th year of the program.
Before the
P&Z granted the permit, city planner Kathy Grotto told the commission
that last winter the Hailey Police Department had received numerous
complaints about excess speed and noise.
She said
the police had a difficult time following up the complaints because the
offenders were not explicitly identified.
She asked
Carl Browning, the president of the Sawtooth Snowmobile Club, if he had
any suggestions.
Browning
said he would bring the matter up with the membership and work on
self-enforcement.
"I’ll
keep a better eye on things and tell the members to do the same,"
Browning said.
He said the
club has about 75 members throughout the Wood River Valley.
Browning
told the P&Z that people can call him if they have complaints, and
then he gave his home and work phone numbers — 788-9673 and 788-2232.
