Price, Southward earn "Player of Week" honors

Cascade salutes ‘Yotes

Two Wood River High School graduates earned NAIA Cascade Conference "Player of the Week" honors Oct. 10 based on their standout play for Albertson College’s volleyball and men’s soccer teams.

Singled out in their league and regionally as "Players of the Week" were Kristyn Price, daughter of Sherry and Bruce Price of Bellevue, and Jason Southward, son of Heidi and Glenn Southward of Hailey.

In addition, both made honorable mention NAIA "Player of the Week."

Junior outside hitter Kristyn Price led all players at the Blocktoberfest Tournament with 93 kills. Price ranks second in the conference in kills per game (4.88) and fourth in digs (3.42) and attack percentage (.292).

Saturday, Price (19 kills, 15 digs) sparked the ‘Yotes in a four-game loss to Oregon Tech at Klamath Falls.

Albertson College stands at 12-8 overall, 7-4 in league entering two tough CCC tests against Concordia and Western Baptist Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19-20 in Caldwell.

Southward, a true freshman for the ‘Yotes men’s soccer team (11-3 overall, 6-2 league), picked up six assists as Albertson swept three games last week by a 27-2 margin. The ‘Yotes have won six straight.

Wood River High’s all-time scoring leader ranks second on the ‘Yotes scoring list (5 goals, 9 assists for 19 points) behind junior forward Coe Michaelson of Wenatchee, Wash. (17 goals, 9 assists for 43 points). Michaelson tallied 10 goals in the three Albertson victories last week.
