2001 Atkinson Park Summer Youth Recreation Program
Offered at Ketchum's Atkinson Park,
sponsored by the park and the city of Ketchum. If you have any questions

JUNIOR TENNIS
At the park tennis courts. Beginner, intermediate and
advanced instruction. Drills, conditioning, strategy, tournament play and
junior team tennis. Includes use of the ball machine. Two five-week
sessions are available:
Sessions—June 11-July 12 and July 16-Aug. 16.
Days—Mondays and Wednesdays, or Tuesdays and
Thursdays.
Times—Mondays and Wednesdays: From 9-10:30 a.m.
for ages 13-17 advanced; from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon for ages 8-10
beginners; from 1-2:30 p.m. for ages 11-13 beginners/intermediate; and
from 2:30-4 p.m. for Team Ratketeers (ages 13-17).
Times—Tuesdays and Thursdays: From 9-10:30
a.m. for ages 11-13 beginners/intermediate; and from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon
for ages 8-10 beginners.
Registration deadline—Friday, May 11 at the park
office.
Fee—$20 per person, per class, per session.
Junior tennis tournaments--Each session concludes
with a singles and doubles tournament. They are planned on two Fridays—July
13 and Aug. 17 from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Tournament entry fee $5.
COED JUNIOR TEAM TENNIS LEAGUE
For ages 11-14, intermediate and advanced players. League
play in singles, doubles and mixed.
Days and times—Tuesdays and Thursdays 3-4:30 p.m.
Dates—Full session is June 26-Aug. 9.
Fee—$20.
ATKINSON PARK TEAM RATKETEERS
For ages 13-17. Intensive workouts and competitive play
for advanced players, high school team members and potential team members.
Days and times—Mondays and Wednesdays 2:30-4:30
p.m.
Dates—Full session is June 11-Aug. 15.
Registration deadline—Friday, May 11 at the park
office. Space is limited.
Fee—$20.
JUNIOR GOLF
Two four-week sessions of an introduction to golf. Each
session ends with a two-day Junior Golf Tournament. Two golf outings at
local courses are offered to the advanced group.
Days—Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Dates—First session June 19-July 12. Second
session July 17-Aug. 9.
Times—From 1:30-2:30 p.m. for grades 2-3. From
2:30-4 p.m. for grades 4-5.
Eligibility—Open to all boys and girls in grades
2-5. Limit 20 players per session.
Registration deadline—Friday, May 11 at the park
office.
Fee—$20 for each session.
SPECIAL FRIDAY EVENTS
Hiking, swimming, fishing, bike rides and field trips from
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays. Events will be posted weekly at Atkinson Park
and listed throughout the summer. Fee is determined by the activity, but
space is limited. Priority is given to boys and girls participating in the
park's Summer Youth Program. The Friday events are supervised by the park
staff. Weekly permission slips are required.
ARTS IN THE PARK
"Totally Awesome Totally Art" for ages 7-13.
Two, four-week sessions are offered. Space is limited.
Days—Mondays and Wednesdays.
Dates—June 11-July 11 and July 16-Aug. 15.
Times—From 12:30-2 p.m. for ages 7-10, and 2:30-4
p.m. for ages 11-13.
Registration deadline—Friday, May 11 at the park
office.
Fee— Each session costs $20 per person and
includes all special programs.
Special programs—Will be announced.
YOUTH BASKETBALL
Five weeks of basketball for boys and girls in grades 3-5
and 6-9.
Days—Mondays and Wednesdays for grades 3-5;
Tuesdays and Thursdays for grades 6-9.
Dates—The full program runs June 11-July 19.
Includes league play and tournament.
Times—12 noon to 1 p.m.
Eligibility—Grades 3-5 and 6-9.
Registration deadline—Friday, May 11 at the park
office.
Fee—$20 per person.
FLAG FOOTBALL
Four weeks of flag football for boys and girls in grades
3-5 and 6-9.
Days—Mondays and Wednesdays.
Dates—July 23-Aug. 8.
Times—10-11:30 a.m.
Eligibility—Grades 3-5 and 6-9.
Registration deadline—Friday, May 11 at the park
office.
Fee—$10 per person.
VOLLEYBALL
An introduction to the basics of volleyball and coed team
play. For boys and girls in grades 3-6.
Days—Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Dates—July 17-Aug. 16.
Times—1:30 to 3 p.m.
Eligibility—Grades 3-6.
Registration deadline—Friday, May 11 at the park
office.
Fee—$20 per person.
STREET HOCKEY
Four weeks of team hockey for boys and girls in grades
4-9. Pads and helmets are required. Some equipment is available.
Days—Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Dates—July 17-Aug. 9.
Times—From 1-2:30 p.m. for grades 4-5. From
2:30-4 p.m. for grades 6-9.
Eligibility—Grades 4-9.
Registration deadline—Friday, May 11 at the park
office.
Fee—$15 per person.
Instructors—Atkinson Park staff.
YOUTH BASEBALL
The summer program includes leagues and, for the first
half of the summer, a weekly pitching machine session.
PITCHING MACHINE
Days—Every Tuesday.
Dates—June 12-July 3.
Times—9:30-11:30 a.m.
Format—Batting and fielding practice. Supervised
use of the pitching machine and batting cage.
Fee—None.
ATKINSON PARK RECREATION LITTLE LEAGUE
Part of the overall park summer program. Players are
assigned to a team and games are played two times a week at 9:30 a.m. Team
assignments are made on the basis of age and skill. Every effort is made
to reach a competitive balance.
Days—Mondays and Wednesdays.
Dates—June 11-July 11, with the league-ending
city tournament set for July 16-18.
Times—Games start at 9:30 a.m. and continue
through 11:30 a.m.
Eligibility—Open to all boys and girls ages 9-13.
Limit of 15 players per team. Registration forms available at the Atkinson
Park office, Hemingway Elementary School in Ketchum and The Community
School in Sun Valley.
Registration deadline—Friday, May 11.
Pre-season evaluations, practice and team assignments--Will
be made Tuesday and Wednesday, May 15-16 from 2:30-4 p.m. on the Little
League field. Another practice will be Monday, June 11 at 9:30 a.m.
Fee—$20 per person.
ATKINSON PARK GIRLS' SOFTBALL
An introduction to the game of softball with emphasis on
individual, basic skills.
Days—Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Dates—June 12-July 12.
Times—Games from 1:30-3 p.m.
Eligibility—Open to girls in grades 3-6 (ages
9-12). Registration forms available at the Atkinson Park office, Hemingway
Elementary School and The Community School.
Registration deadline—Friday, May 11.
Practice and team assignments—Will be made
Tuesday and Wednesday, May 22-23 from 2:30-4 p.m. on the Little League
field.
Fee—$20 per person.
ATKINSON PARK SUMMER SOCCER PROGRAM
A five-week soccer camp for boys and girls ages 9-15,
focusing on skill development through drills, team and league play.
Days—Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Dates—June 19-July 26.
Times—From 9-10:30 a.m. for kids in grades 3-5;
and 10:30 a.m.-12 noon for grades 6-9.
Fee—$20 per person.
Eligibility—Boys and girls ages 9-15.
Registration forms available at the Atkinson Park office, Hemingway
Elementary School and The Community School.
Registration deadline—Friday, May 11. Space is

FALL SOCCER PROGRAM
Instruction and league play for boys and girls in grades
1, 2-3 and 4-5. Registration forms will be available the first week of
school—Aug. 27-30, 2001—at Hemingway Elementary School in Ketchum and
The Community School, Sun Valley.
Dates—Sept. 11-Oct. 13.
Times—From 2:30-4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays for
those in grades 4-5. Lower grades play Fridays from 2:30-4 p.m. and
Saturday mornings.
Fee—$20 per person.
