Matthes thinks about life after biking
Olympian visits Ketchum hometown
Community School graduate Ruthie Matthes
plans to wrap up a very successful professional mountain bike career
during 2001. The 2000 Olympian and four-time national cross country
champion from Ketchum plans to defend her national title and compete in
the World Championships Sept. 16 at Vail, Colo. Then Ruthie will retire
from competition and find a way to continue in sport—giving back to the
community and possibly developing retreats for women and families. Here,
Ruthie visits with Formula Sports owner Bob Gordon at the Ketchum store
over the Christmas holiday. She poses with her Trek bike—with her USA
jacket hanging in the background.
