Hemingway conservation fund established as memorial

The Nature Conservancy of Idaho plans to
establish a conservation memorial in Jack Hemingway’s name.
Called the Jack Hemingway Habitat
Restoration Fund, it will be aimed at providing resources for conservation
work along Silver Creek and throughout Idaho.
Possible projects include:
· Installing fish screens on
irrigation head gates along rivers such as the upper Henry’s Fork to
prevent native fish from flowing into irrigation canals where they die.
· Building fences to exclude
livestock from spring creeks like Silver Creek and throughout the state.
· Reestablishing native wetland
areas in places such as the Kootenai River Valley in northern Idaho.
· Planting native vegetation buffers
between agricultural fields and streams to reduce runoff and provide
wildlife habitat throughout the state.
A private, nonprofit organization working
with communities to protect Idaho’s wildlands, The Nature Conservancy
has offices in Boise, Sun Valley, Idaho Falls and Coeur d’Alene.
The Nature Conservancy plans to manage the
Hemingway fund as an endowment with annual investment income used to fund
projects on private and public land.
