People and PlacesCommunity School graduates Annie Flanagan and Krista Brown of Ketchum were two of 516 seniors graduating from Colby College in Maine May 23. Sociology major and Deans List student Flanagan is a daughter of Carol and Bill Flanagan. Brown, daughter of Tina and Rick Brown, majored in biology. Army Pvt. Adam J. Miller has arrived at Fort Knox, Ky. to complete basic combat training. He is a son of Brenda J. Miller of Sun Valley and Curt Miller of Spokane, Wa. Laura Cordes received the Mary Smith Hamer Journalism Scholarship during the DePauw University Awards Convocation May 12 in Greencastle, Ind. Cordes, a 1997 Wood River High School graduate, just finished her sophomore year at the four-year liberal arts college. She is the daughter of Diane and Jeff Cordes of Hailey. The Mary Smith Hamer Journalism Scholarship was established in memory of the 1970 DePauw graduate. It is given annually to a junior or senior woman who has excelled in journalistic endeavors and who demonstrates promise for a career in journalism.
Albertson College of Idaho presented academic and community awards to its student body during the 1999 awards ceremony May 18 in Caldwell. Melissa Ireland of Bellevue received Excellence and Merit in Foreign Languages, and the Scarab Scholastic Honor Society. Frances Nagashima of Hailey earned the ASACI Outstanding Senator, the Harry S. Kessler Scholarship and the George Wolfe Endowed Scholarship in Pre-Law. Albertson College awarded 120 undergraduate degrees during the annual commencement ceremonies June 5 on the campus of the private, liberal arts college in Caldwell. Locals among the graduating class were: Melissa J. Ireland of Bellevue, B.A. in Elementary Education and Spanish; Cory McKay Ley of Ketchum, B.A. in History and Psychology; Jacqueline Cole of Stanley, B.A. in Creative Writing; and Brian James Homer of Hailey, B.S. in Physics.
About 400 College of Southern Idaho students were honored during the 33rd annual CSI graduation exercises held in May at the Twin Falls gym. Claire E. Innes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles B. Innes of Hailey, graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa. May 16. Claire, a graduate of St. Georges School, received a B.A. in French, with Deans List honors.
