Smoke from the Halstead Fire billows over the mountains about 18 miles northwest of Stanley on Monday. The lightning-caused fire exploded from 60 acres Monday to more than 3,700 acres Tuesday morning, with no indication of when it would be contained. The fire caused the evacuation of the Bradley Boy Scout Camp, as well as the closure of Beaver Creek and Lola Creek campgrounds. According to the Salmon-Challis National Forest, 92 personnel are battling the flames, including hotshot crews, hand crews and smoke jumpers. The fire started Friday, July 27.
