Wood River Girls Battle For Title
The Timberline High School gym in Boise was full Friday night for the rematch of last February’s State 4A girls’ basketball tournament championship game between the Middleton Vikings and Wood River Wolverines from Hailey. This time, the clash between the two best defensive teams in the tournament took place in the semifinals, and Middleton prevailed 56-46 en route to its third straight 4A title and fourth in five years. Despite its defensive intensity, there was little Middleton could do to stop Wolverine 6-foot-1-inch senior post Haylee Thompson, the Utah State-bound prospect who had the best game of her career with 30 points. Here, Thompson, right, battles with Middleton senior Brianne Buckway in the kind of turf war that went on all game. Photo by David N. Seelig
