Birds And Goblins, Beware!

Hailey resident Manon Gaudreau hoists a scarecrow—named "Yorick"—which she built Saturday at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden south of Ketchum. Some 40 children and adults ventured to the public garden to participate in a scarecrow-building workshop. The scarecrows started out being built as family projects for Halloween and garden use, but after a bit, "the kids had a blast chasing butterflies and playing in the stream and the parents often finished building the scarecrow," said Executive Director Carter Hedberg. The organization is also conducting a Scarecrow Showdown event in which people and businesses can enter a homemade scarecrow by Monday, Oct. 24, for a judged competition with prizes.
