Welcome Home, Soldier

Upon returning home to Hailey on Monday, Army Pfc. Steven Cornford is greeted by his almost 3-year-old daughter, Victoria, as well as by many other family members, friends, members of American Legion David Ketchum Post 115 and representatives of the Sun Valley Adaptive Sports Higher Ground Program. Cornford received the Silver Star for heroics during close-combat fighting against al-Qaida in Iraq during April 2007. Besides being wounded in the shoulder, he suffers from post-traumatic-stress disorder. He was selected by the Army under Operation Proper Exit to be one of several soldiers in rehabilitation to return to the battle scene to help them deal with associated problems. He will appear on a "60 Minutes" television news program that covered the veterans' coming to grips with the trauma. To read a story about Cornford, see the Friday, May 6, edition of the Mountain Express. Photo by Willy Cook
