Backup Production Assistant

The Idaho Mountain Express newspaper is looking for an experienced graphic designer to serve as backup to cover for staff when they are on vacation. Candidates must have a strong interest in advertising and be a knowledgeable in InDesign. This is not a regular staff position and would mainly be on a prescheduled basis. The position could offer additional opportunities for future design work.

The successful candidate should have a relevant college degree and at least two years of design experience. Must be good with computers and meeting deadlines.

Backup News Reporter

The Idaho Mountain Express newspaper is looking for an experienced journalist to serve as a backup news reporter to cover for staff reporters when they are on vacation. Candidates must have a strong interest in community news and be a stickler for providing clear, accurate, objective reporting. This is not a regular staff position--it will require working 20-40 hours a week, up to 10 weeks a year.

The position could offer additional opportunities for reporting and writing work. The backup reporter will be required to cover a wide variety of topics and must be able to write hard news and feature stories. He/she will have to write about city and county governments, state agencies, nonprofit groups, environmental issues, health issues, arts, events and other topics as assigned by the editor.

The successful candidate should have a relevant college degree and at least two years of reporting experience. Must be good with computers and must know AP style. The Express, recognized repeatedly by the National Newspaper Association as one of the best community newspapers in the country, has a strong tradition of providing award-winning news coverage.
