Picabo Street is getting a new address: The U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame.
A native of the Wood River Val-ley, Street, 33, is one of the most successful U.S. alpine racers in the history of the sport. She will be in-ducted into the Ski Hall of Fame on January 28, 2005.
A three-time Olympian, Street won the gold medal in super G at the 1998 Nagano Olympics and was the silver medallist in downhill in 1994 at Lillehammer, Norway.
She is also a two-time World Cup downhill champion (1995-1996), a nine-time World Cup race winner and a four-time U.S. champion. Street was also a force internationally, with five World Cup medals, including a gold in downhill in 1996.
In a statement released by the U.S. Ski Team, Street said, ?I can?t believe it. I can, but I can?t. Wow! This is such a great honor.?
Street learned to ski on Bald Mountain and was a member of the Sun Valley Alpine Ski Team. Her racing career with the U.S. Ski Team spanned 14 years until she retired in 2002. She currently serves as a Goodwill Ambassador at Park City Resort in Utah.
Fellow 2004 inductees to the Na-tional Ski Hall of Fame in Ishpeming, Michigan, include five-time World Cup moguls champion Donna Wein-brecht (46 World Cup victories), Thor B. Groswold, a former ski jumping official and director of the Winter Park nordic program, and ski histo-rian Alan Engen.
