Sports summary


Horse show ribbons galore

Winning a slew of ribbons, Wood River Valley hunter/jumper riders and trainers enjoyed such a successful High Desert Horse Show that they ran out of silk during the Bend (Ore.) competition July 20-Aug. 1.

Represented were horses from Autumn Hills Farm; Teresa Englehart, Cottonwood Creek; Kim Koch and Lucky 13 Ranch; and Lorraine Wilcox. For a complete list of results visit jbarj.org/horse/results.

Glenn Cooper with Miss Ellie; Kat Dembergh with Macallen; Elaine and Alisa Durkheimer with Holly Go Lightly; Toby Haleen with Scout; Lindsay Kavanagh with Dutch Chocolate and Optimistic; Kim Koch with Brandon; Sylvie Krekow with Swifty; and Lucky 13 Ranch with Miles and Lyric;

National Hershey track

Two Blaine County athletes competed in Saturday?s 27th annual Hershey Track and Field Youth Program North American Final in Hershey, Pa.

Carey?s Michaela Adamson, 10, finished 11th overall in the girls? 9-10 standing long jump at Hershey with a jump of 6-1 ½. The winning jump was 7-0 ¼.

Tyler Peters of Ketchum turned in an 11th-place softball throw in the boys? 11-12 class with a distance of 165-9. The winning throw was 209-7. Peters improved by nearly 12 feet over his national-qualifying 154-0 throw during the Idaho State Hershey meet held in Hailey July 10.



IGA Senior Amateur golf

Wood River Valley golfers collected a pair of second-place finishes during the 2004 Idaho Golf Association Senior Amateur golf championship Aug. 7-8 at Falcon Crest Golf Club in Kuna.

Hailey?s Linda Cropper (100-93 for 193) tied for second in the women?s First Flight, one stroke behind winner Joanna Odiaga of Eagle (102-90 for 192). Second-place Bob Doyle of Hailey (87-73 for 160) was four strokes behind Lee Stokes of Boise (82-74 for 156) in the men?s Senior III Flight.

Bellevue?s Randy Kolash (78-82 for 160) placed fourth in the men?s Senior II Flight.

Playing well in the men?s Championship Flight won by E.L. Reiersgord of Jackpot, Nev. (69-73 for 142) were Bob Lutz of Jerome (75-76 for 151), Walter Littenberg of Ketchum (79-75 for 154) and Dave Cropper of Hailey (80-79 for 159).



Aces at Valley Club
From The Valley Club:

On Saturday, Aug. 7, Harry Weekes aced the 165-yard par 3 second hole using an 8-iron. Witnesses were Jack Weekes and Cordes Snyder.

And on Monday, Aug. 9, Dave Berman aced the 165-yard par 3 sixth hole using a 5-rescue from the black tees. Witness was David Rognlien.

Also on Monday, Jerry Mells aced the 165-yard par 3 sixth hole using a 6-iron. Witnesses were John Wilson, Sheila Mells and Steve Farmer.



Shop to the Top coming

The save-money early entry deadline is Thursday, Aug. 19 for The Elephant?s Perch?s Shop to the Top run and walk scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 21. The six-mile, 3,300 vertical foot climb from Ketchum to the top of Baldy begins at 8 a.m. (walkers from River Run) and 9 a.m. (runners from the Perch in downtown Ketchum). Cost is $20 if registered by Aug. 19, and $30 until the sign-up cutoff of Friday, Aug. 20 by 6 p.m.



Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run of the Wood River Valley will host its first annual Community 5K and Expo Saturday, August 14 at Heagle Park in Hailey?s Della View Subdivision.

Sponsored by St. Luke?s Medical Center, First Bank of Idaho and Elkhorn Springs, the race features a family-friendly course for runners, joggers and walkers all ages and abilities. The start time for runners is 9 a.m. and for walkers 9:05 a.m.

As part of the festivities, games, blood pressure tests and information on healthy living will be offered from 9-11 a.m. Children can also enjoy a jumping castle and YAK will be on hand for face-painting and necklace making.

Registration is available on-line at www.spondoro.com, or entry forms can be picked up at local retailers and health clubs. For additional information, contact Shari Kunz, 788-0999.

Eighth-grade football

Eighth-grade football practices at Hailey?s Wood River Middle School begin Tuesday, Aug. 17 at 3 p.m. in the school gym.



Youth hockey coaches sought

Sun Valley Youth Hockey is looking for coaching applicants for the 2004-05 winter season. If you?re interested, call Craig at 788-2088.



Bowling meeting Aug. 26

The Wood River Women?s Bowling Association has set its fall meeting for Thursday, Aug. 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wicked Spud in Hailey. Discussed will be tournament schedules and the election. For more details call Sherri at 720-4497.



Magic Valley Senior Games

Events like pinochle, bridge, bowling, bocce, track and field, swimming, golf, bicycling and tennis are included in the annual Magic Valley Senior Games scheduled for Aug. 21-29 at various locations in the Twin Falls area.
