Large storm hammers Galena?s trails system

Galena Lodge?s managers are looking for help in clearing up trails left in ruins following a freak storm. The Lodge and its trails were inundated by a severe thunder and rainstorm Monday, Aug. 2, at midday. People taking cover from the storm soon filled the lodge to capacity, Galena Manager Carlin Thompson said.

?We received over one and a half inches in less than an hour. Standing water accumulated on out back deck and in the parking lot. The water level rose onto our back porch,? she said. ?Our trail system did not fare well. We are still assessing the damage but we do know that por-tions of Galena Loop, Psycho and Rip and Tear have been washed away.?

They are looking for volunteers to begin trail work and repair on Sunday, Aug. 22, and Sunday, Aug. 29. They are flexible with these dates, Thompson added.

To volunteer and for more information call Thompson or Charles Savage at 726-4010.
