Thieves steal roof off ranch building

Sheriff’s Office looking for leads in finding culprits

The old saying “they’ll take anything not nailed down” didn’t hold true last week, after thieves removed nails and all and stole the roof off of a building at Rock Creek Ranch southwest of Hailey.
Blaine County Sheriff Gene Ramsey said Monday that the stolen roofing, described as “dark green tin” is valued at $3,500. It was taken from a 50-foot-long outbuilding at the ranch, which is currently owned by the Wood River Land Trust pending purchase of the property by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game for creation of a wildlife management area.
“It was taken at least three days prior to Oct. 31,” Ramsey said. “There were some tire tracks out there, but we don’t really have any leads.”
The building is located at No. 14 Rock Creek Road, which is about five miles northeast of U.S. Highway 20.
Ramsey said the theft likely took several hours to accomplish. Anyone who saw something suspicious in the area, or has seen a newly acquired stack of dark green roofing material, is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 788-5555.
