Wolverine volleyball awards

     The Wood River High School volleyball program staged its awards banquet Tuesday, Oct. 28 and announced its awards.

     Chosen by the players: Most Inspirational—Ciceley Peavey. Most Improved—Giselle Andrade.

     Chosen by the coaches: Captains Award—Brittney Bradley and Haley Cutler. Coaches Award—Megan Lube.

     Selected to play in the area All-Star Senior match Nov. 4 at Twin Falls High School were Brittney Bradley, Ciceley Peavey and Haley Cutler.

 

Baseball, softball meeting is Monday, Nov. 10

     The Wood River Baseball and Softball Association (WRBSA) will hold its annual meeting Monday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Community Campus in Hailey.

     Five WRBSA board positions, all with voting privileges, need to be filled for two-year terms. They are general board members (3 spots available), baseball director and softball director. Candidates should plan on attending Monday’s meeting.

SkiErg World Championships on Friday

    For the third straight year, Ketchum’s HardCore Training Cente will host a local event of the SkiErg World Championships. It is Friday, Nov. 7 from 5-6 p.m. Call Bill Nurge at 720-1829 for a start time. The event is free and open to the public. HardCore Training Center is located at 540 N. First Ave.

     Athletes from all over the world will compete to see how fast they can complete 1,000 meters on theConcept 2 SkiErg machine and post their times for ranking. Special prizes from Concept 2 are awarded for age group winners. Last year, 21 locals were among the 532 men and 379 women competing.

     Locals ranking high in their age classes last year were Anna Droege, Buey Grossman, Bill Nurge, Muffy Ritz, Sue Engelmann and Claire Siderman.

 

WRHS boys’ basketball and wrestling have Parent-Player meetings Monday

     Wood River High School athletic director John Rade has scheduled pre-season Parent-Player meetings for the Wood River High boys’ basketball and wrestling programs.

     They are Monday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. in the commons area of the Hailey high school. After an initial presentation, the boys’ basketball group will split off and meet in the Distance Learning Lab.

     Practices begin Friday, Nov. 14 for freshman through senior girls in the boys’ hoops program. First games are a pre-season jamboree with Mountain Home and Timberline of Boise on Friday, Nov. 21 at the Hailey high school gym.

     First wrestling practices are Monday, Nov. 17. First tri-meet is Wednesday, Dec. 10 at Burley High School.

 

Sign-ups for B, B+ hockey leagues end today

     Sign-ups for the 2014-15 B and B+ Hockey Leagues started last Friday. Final sign up is today, Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. League play begins in early- to mid-November.

     B league is a fun non-competitive co-ed adult hockey league, while B+ is a competitive co-ed league for more advanced players. You need to provide a $260 non-refundable league fee along with proof of USA Hockey registration. Entry forms can be turned in at either Sturtevants in Ketchum or Sturtos in Hailey.
