Eagle Island State Park west of Boise was the site of Saturday’s 2014 Idaho High School Activities Association State Cross Country meet.

There were 755 runners in four classifications getting a little wet in the final competition of the prep cross country season.

Hailey’s Wood River High School entered 14 runners in the 4A competition and freshman Kirsys Campbell (19:42) debuted on the big IHSAA stage with an eighth-place finish, just 46 seconds off the winning time of Moscow sophomore Katherine Ruck (18:56).

The top 20 individual finishers in each classification received medals. Community School freshman Henry Raff (17:34) brought home a medal by placing 19th of 141 boys in the 2A/1A 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) race.

Pocatello senior Elijah Armstrong clocked the fastest boys’ time of 15:25 in winning his state-record fourth consecutive individual 4A state title. He led the Pocatello boys to a fourth straight team title. Sandpoint repeated as the 4A girls’ team champion.

Fastest girl of the day, capturing her third state title in four years, was Boise High senior Emily Hamlin (18:14). Still, the Coeur d’Alene girls placed four runners in the top seven for their third consecutive State 5A girls’ team championship.

Coach Tracy Harris’ Mountain View Maverick boys returned to the top of the 5A heap for the first time since 2006 with a best-of-meet 50-point victory spread for the big school championship.

Shelley swept the 3A boys’ and girls’ team titles for a second straight year. Soda Springs did the same in 2A/1A—the Soda girls making it nine straight championships nipping at the heels of all-time IHSAA team champion Jerome boys from 1973-82, winning 10 titles for coach Tim Dunne.

Other boys’ classification winners were senior Drew Schultz of Capital (15:42) in 5A, junior Austin Stewart of Shelley (16:08.39) for a second straight year in 3A, and Logos senior Paul Ryan (16:08.67) in 2A/1A.

Girls’ winners beside Hamlin and Ruck were Shelley junior Klarissa Andersen (19:30) in 3A, and Melba senior Sierra Manzer (19:29) for the second time in three years in 2A/1A.
