Police car collides with elk

An Idaho State Police 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe sustained more than $1,500 in damage when it collided with an elk at about 7:40 a.m. Wednesday on state Highway 75 just south of East Fork Road. The vehicle was driven by Blaine County resident Idaho State Police trooper Dan Choma, who was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the incident. Sheriff Gene Ramsey said the animal, a cow elk, was killed on impact. Ramsey said the elk wandered onto the highway in front of Choma and that he was unable to avoid hitting it. “This is just another reminder that elk are moving and people need to pay attention, especially at dawn and dusk,” Ramsey said.
