A 35-year-old Hailey man was sentenced Monday to 14 years in prison for rape, a crime he committed in the course of a long-term relationship with an underage girl.
The prison sentence, with six years determinate and eight years indeterminate, was issued for Pedro Asuncion Ore-Quispe by Judge Robert J. Elgee in Blaine County 5th District Court. In pronouncing sentence, Elgee noted that Ore-Quispe’s crime was “not a one-time thing.”
Ore-Quispe, who had remained incarcerated on $250,000 bond since his arrest in 2013, was given credit for nearly a year already spent in jail.
The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office and the Blaine County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, which jointly investigated the case, alleged that Ore-Quispe had a five-year relationship with the girl that started when she was 10.
Ore-Quispe was charged with five felony sex offenses in a Blaine County grand jury indictment issued in November 2013. The charges included three counts of rape, one count of lewd conduct with a child under 16 and one count of sexual abuse of a child under 16. Rape and lewd conduct are punishable in Idaho by up to life in prison, while sexual abuse of a child is punishable in the state by up to 25 years in prison.
In August, Ore-Quispe pleaded guilty to a single count of rape in exchange for dismissal of the other four felonies.
At sentencing, Ore-Quispe, testifying through Spanish-speaking court interpreter, told the court: “I ask for forgiveness.”
According to court records, Ore-Quispe is also accused by the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency of being in the United States illegally. An “immigration detainer” issued against him requires that he be turned over to the federal agency once released from state custody.
