The Wolverine varsity wrapped up its regular season with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-16 over Minico Thursday in Rupert.
Richards said, “Minico was fired up for its ‘Senior Night’ and played us tough, but our girls had a great night serving and practicing their shots.
“Senior Haley Cutler led our offense with 10 kills and she had 14 defensive digs.
“Others were sophomores McKenzie Garrison (8 kills) and Michelle Mason (7 kills, 2 service aces, 7 digs). Ciceley Peavey had another stellar de-fensive night with 27 digs. Brittney Bradley had 25 assists and 4 kills.”
Wood River’s other teams ended their seasons Thursday.

Coach Sara Allen’s freshmen won their final match 25-3, 25-11 over Minico. Richards added, “Coach Allen did a great job with our freshmen, finishing the season 10-8 overall and 5-5 in conference, splitting with several conference teams.”

District 1A Div. 2 tourney
Top-seeded Lighthouse Christian, No. 2 Camas County and No. 3 Dietrich captured first-round victories as the nine-school District 1A Divi-sion 2 tournament opened Sat-urday at Dietrich. Two-time defending state champion Lighthouse Christian Academy is the reigning district winner.
Camas County (7-1 league), last year’s district runner-up, needed four games to beat No. 7-seeded Carey (7-13, 2-6 league) by scores of 25-12, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17. Carey had a loser-out game Tuesday night with No. 6 Castleford (4-4 league). Dietrich (6-2) beat Castleford in three games Saturday.
No. 8 Murtaugh ended the season for the Community School (1-13, 0-8 league) in Sat-urday’s play-in game, then Lighthouse (8-0 league) whipped Murtaugh (1-7) in three. No. 5 Richfield (4-4) sent No. 4 Hansen (4-4) into the loser bracket with a three-game mild upset win Saturday.
