Middle school boys take MVAC soccer crown

Wood River downs Stuart 5-2 in finale

On Monday, the Wood River Middle School boys’ soccer team capped off a perfect 10-0 season and captured the Magic Valley Athletic Conference title by beating Stuart Middle School in Twin Falls 5-2.
It was the program’s second undefeated MVAC season in the last three years under head coach Greg Gvozdas and assis-tant coach Matt Archibald. Athletic director is Jonah Tor-seth.
Over the last two months, Wood River outscored its op-ponents 82-6 and posted seven shutouts behind the strong de-fensive play of Garrett Stouffer, Jhonathan Yallico and Jake Albright, according to Gvozdas.
The coach said, “It was the team’s ability to possess the ball and control the tempo of a match that set it apart.
“This dominating passing attack was orchestrated by top midfielders Lucas Beste, Kevin Montes, Cash Dart and Javier Vega. The team is comprised of 28 middle school boys in grades seven and eight, and is led by top goal scorers Mario Macias and Gio Armenta.”
    Rounding out the roster:
8th graders—Daniel Juarez, Gustavo Perez, Alex Verano, Brandon Garcia, Andreas Var-gas and Kevin Gallardo.
7th graders—Cole Reeves, Chris Davitt, Peter de la Cruz, Jose Esparza, Brogan Ros, Davis Ros, Rafael Muniz, John Radford, Bryan Flores, Omar Vargas, Daniel Gonzalez, DJ Gralenski and Will Penrose.
