School board to discuss employee concerns

Survey identifies staff issues with trust and communications

Express Staff Writer

The results of an “Employee Engagement Survey” will be discussed in detail at the next meeting of the Blaine County School District board of trustees, set to begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the district office at 118 West Bullion St. in Hailey.

Results of the survey, conducted in May, show that “the overwhelming majority of employees are proud to work for BCSD and are proud to work in the field of education.” Nonetheless, the survey shows that there are issues regarding trust, teamwork, vision and communications among the 369 district employees that took the survey.

For example, the survey found that “one-third of employees do not trust information received from district leadership.” Also, “almost half of the staff does not feel leadership clearly explains why key decisions are made.”

According to the meeting agenda, new Superintendent GwenCarol Holmes will discuss steps that have and are being taken to address employee concerns.

Other agenda items include a review of data from the Idaho Reading Initiative and the Idaho English Language Assessment. The board will also discuss prioritization of tasks for a newly formed Financial Committee and will formally declare a vacancy of a board member from Trustee Zone 4.

A complete agenda is available at the district website at
