Be the best Chihuahua you can be

By WILLY COOK
Express Staff Writer

The Rev. Ken Brannon blesses Morocco, a tiny 2-year-old male Chihuahua shelter dog, Sunday morning at the annual Blessing of the Animals ceremony at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Sun Valley, as animal shelter volunteer Janice Blanton looks on. Morocco was one of four shelter dogs, exotic pets (including a turtle and two donkeys) and almost 90 other dogs that were blessed. The ceremony was one of many worldwide in memory of St. Francis of Assisi, a 13th century saint who became the patron saint of animals, birds and the environment. Brannon emphasized that St. Francis kept his life simple and gentle, and this faith of simplicity and gentleness lives on in these pet blessings, in which there is no real distinction between the lives of people and animals. As a positive epilogue to the event, Morocco was adopted on Sunday afternoon.
