Mother Nature pulls out all the stops

The Wood River Valley and the surrounding area are currently bursting with a colorful display of fall colors. In summer, the green pigment in leaves, or chlorophyll, is dominant. Photosynthesis is in full swing until chlorophyll levels decline during late summer as daylight hours decrease and the temperature cools. As chlorophyll degradation occurs, yellow and orange hidden pigments are revealed. Red pigments get synthesized when approximately half of the chlorophyll degradation process happens. And voilá, Mother Nature shows her true colors!
