Alleged knife threat leads to felony charges

Drinking bout ends in alley confrontation

A 29-year-old Ketchum man was charged last week with two counts of aggravated assault, a felony, for allegedly threatening two people with a knife in an alley in downtown Ketchum.
Jason Bradley Sellars is currently free on $3,000 bond after being formally charged with the crimes at an initial court appearance on Sept. 30 in Blaine County Magistrate Court. He is represented by Ketchum attorney Brian Elkins.
The knife threat allegedly occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 29 after Sellars was drinking with three other people at the Casino bar on Main Street. A probable-cause affidavit filed by Ketchum Deputy Tony Atienza indicates that the knife threat was the result of a possible misunderstanding.
According to Atienza’s report, Riley L. Andrada, 24, and Jonathon P. Reddy, 23, were walking together after the drinking group left the Casino when they both tripped off a curb and fell to the ground. Atienza wrote that Sellars allegedly thought that Andrada had attacked Reddy and pulled the knife while yelling “get off my friend.”
Jeannette A. Powell, 25, was also with the group and told Atienza that there had been no altercation prior to the knife being pulled. Atienza alleged that Sellars also threatened Powell with the knife when she pulled Andrada away from Sellars.
Atienza wrote that he also interviewed Reddy, who told him that he remembered falling to the ground but did not remember what happened after that.
Sellars, who was allegedly in possession of a Gerber brand folding knife about 7 inches long, was taken into custody following interviews with the four people involved.
