TU to host Sierra fishing presentation

Local author to share secrets

By TERRY SMITH
Express Staff Writer

The public is invited to learn about “Fly Fishing the Eastern Sierra Nevada” at a monthly meeting of the Hemingway Chapter of Trout Unlimited. The meeting, free to the public, will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, at Whiskey Jacques’ Restaurant and Nightclub on Main Street in Ketchum.
The presentation will be provided by Mike McKenna, author of the award-winning book “Angling Around Sun Valley.” Originally from New England, McKenna now lives in the Hailey area.
Trout Unlimited reported in a news release that McKenna “has been writing about and fishing the High Sierra for well over a decade.”
“Mike will share tips and an overview of angling for rainbows, browns and golden trout in the ‘Jewels of the Eastern Sierra,’ covering everything from the  Mammoth and June Lake regions to Hot Creek, the Owens River, East Walker River, Crowley Lake (the granddaddy of still-water fly fishing) and everything in between,” the news release states.
For more information, contact Hemingway Chapter President Ed Northen at 788-3618.
Trout Unlimited’s mission is to “protect, reconnect and sustain our cold water fisheries and habitat.” The Hemingway Chapter holds free monthly meetings and presentations from September through May of each year.
