Bears won’t pass up easy meals

A mother bear digs through an overturned trash can northwest of Ketchum last Saturday night, as her two cubs watch and wait for edible rewards. Bears are active this time of year, working to build up fat reserves in advance of winter hibernation. Wildlife officials have warned that residents of bear country not leave trash out overnight and remove other temptations from areas around their residences, such as pet food and easily accessed bird feeders.
