Sun Valley Resort continues its climb up SKI magazine’s rankings of Western ski resorts—to No. 3 this year, up from No. 4 last year and No. 7 the year before.
“This award truly reflects the combined efforts of our dedicated ownership, Sun Valley Resort staff, and the greater community,” said Sun Valley Resort General Manager Tim Silva.
The rankings are determined by surveys of SKI magazine readers.
The resort was ranked No. 1 in lifts, up one notch from last year (despite no additions to its lifts), and maintained its No. 2 rankings in Grooming and On-Mountain Dining. It was also ranked No. 2 this year for Service, up from No. 3 last year.
Sun Valley also earned Top 10 rankings in Lodging, Dining, Character, and Off-Hill Activities (all No. 3’s). It earned the No. 2 spot in a new category, Sustainability, as well as No. 2 for Overall Satisfaction. Sun Valley Resort also stayed within the top 10 for Après Ski, Family Programs, Scenery and Terrain Parks.
“This is an exciting time for Sun Valley Resort and the greater community of Ketchum,” Silva said. “With the recognition from our guests in the pages of Ski magazine, to the renovation and expansion of the Sun Valley Lodge, we are poised to continue offering guests what they desire—true hospitality matched with a superior ski experience.”
New for the 2014-15 ski season will be 25 acres of glade skiing in the Frenchman’s area of Bald Mountain as a result of the resort’s partnership with the Ketchum Ranger District, which is proceeding with a large-scale tree-thinning project aimed at preserving healthy trees. Also on the horizon is the resort’s expansive redesign and expansion of the famed Sun Valley Lodge, to include a 20,000-square-foot spa and wellness center, scheduled to be opened in June.
In the 2014-15 rankings, Whistler was No. 1 for Terrain Variety and Jackson Hole was No. 1 for Challenge.
