A 49-year-old Hailey man has been charged with being a fugitive from justice, a felony, following his arrest last week during a traffic stop on state Highway 75 north of Hailey.
The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday that Adam Powell Sherrod was arrested because of a felony warrant from Texas charging him with larceny. According to a probable-cause affidavit filed in the case by sheriff’s Deputy Carter Stewart, Sherrod said he was unaware of the warrant when taken into custody at about 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 17.
Stewart stated in the affidavit that he stopped Sherrod, who was southbound in a 2000 GMC Sierra, near the highway intersection with Buttercup Road because Sherrod was traveling at 65 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone. Stewart wrote that the warrant surfaced in an identification check.
Sherrod made an initial appearance Monday in Blaine County Magistrate Court. According to court records, he was released from custody later that day after posting bond that was set on the warrant at $15,000.
A fugitive identification hearing for Sherrod has been scheduled for 1 p.m. on Oct. 15 before Magistrate Judge R. Ted Israel.
