Donít let NIMBYs kill the river park

I have to laugh. Every week there’s another letter from some north-of-Ketchum dinosaur decrying the ruination of the area due to the river park. Araaack, children laughing! Shreeech, teenagers whooping! Arrreeegg, Ketchum riff-raff wading in the river! Shorrrorch, noise, noise, noise!
Ketchum started life as an extractive and grazing economy. Then, lucky for us all, recreation came along. It is our life and joy here and so far the second-home owners and angry NIMBYs have not been able to turn Ketchum into a gated community (or monument to themselves).
I am the last of a large pioneer family that still lives here mainly because of nasty NIMBYs. I hope that we can all come together and overcome the negativity towards this wonderful project! Oh, and anyone that thinks retailers are going to make big bucks on a river park is wrong.
Kayakers are bigger dirtbags than climbers! It’s still very much worth creating this park!
