Seniors make list for Merit Scholarships

Community School places 4 students in national ranking

By EXPRESS STAFF

The Community School in Sun Valley announced Friday that four of its seniors have been selected as National Merit Scholarship semifinalists. The school identified the students in a news release as Tara Burchmore, Sydney Hagenbuch, Sara Runkel and Willis Sanchez-duPont.
The four students are among 16,000 semifinalists selected nationally from a pool of 1.4 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools. Selection is based upon scores on the PSAT/SNSQT college entrance examines.
“I am proud of these exceptional students, especially their ability to combine outstanding academics with many extracurricular accomplishments,” said Head of School David Holmes.
By being named semifinalists, the four students have the opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million.
Scholarship winners will be selected by academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received.
