Botanical Garden to host Chef Dinner
This year, the Sawtooth Botanical Garden, known for its native plants and Dalai Lama-blessed prayer wheel, has delved into the gourmet food scene, too. The garden’s instructional Chef Dinner Series continues on Thursday, Sept. 11, with a meal prepared by Peter Weisz.
The Austrian-born Weisz used to run Peter’s Restaurant in Ketchum and now works as a private chef in the Wood River Valley.
From 6 to 9 p.m., participants will watch Weisz prepare each course in the garden’s kitchen, then sit down to eat together. Diners receive the recipes to take home. The main course for Thursday’s meal is pork tenderloin with plum sauce. Also on the menu are soup, salad, wine and dessert.
Tickets cost $75. For reservations, call
726-9358. The garden is in Ketchum at 11 Gimlet Road. The final dinner in the 2014 series will take place Oct. 16.

Papoose Club plans New Members Night
Perhaps you saw members of the Papoose Club flipping pancakes at Wagon Days and said, “I want to do that.” Or maybe you have no idea what the Papoose Club does. Or what a papoose is. Whatever your motivation, the Papoose Club welcomes you to its New  Members Night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at Silvercreek Realty and Art Gallery, 311 Leadville Ave., Ketchum.
The club was started in 1954 by a group of local moms to support educational, cultural and athletic organizations for youth in the Wood River Valley. Or in less formal terms, they do stuff to raise money for kids. Each year members host fundraisers and events including the Pancake Breakfast, Holiday Bazaar and KinderCup.
Potential new members can sample wine and hors d’oeuvres, hear a presentation about the club, and find out the results of the Pancake Breakfast and who will be the group’s Woman of the Year. Admission is free.
