Sarah (Sally) Kuhne peacefully passed away on Saturday, Aug. 30, finally succumbing after a valiant battle with cancer. She leaves behind a daughter, Frances; son, Graham; brother, Kirk Graham; sister, Susan Turner; and the love of her life, Bruce Dechert.
Sally, who grew up in the Carolinas, was a University of Georgia graduate and an avid Bulldog fan. She came to Sun Valley from the Northeast for the first time in 2008 and, like many others, quickly fell in love with this special place. She vacationed here annually and then moved here permanently in 2013. With a nickname of Sally, she quickly became known as “Sun Valley Sally” to her many Idaho friends and became an accomplished snow skier. She loved Grumpy’s burgers, Rico’s pizza and watching sporting events at Whiskey Jacques’.
Sally’s philosophy of life was remarkable. Once her diagnosis became terminal, she posted the following moral support note on her mirror that captured Sally’s philosophy of life exactly:
Life is not a problem to be solved.
Life is a joy to be lived.
We will all miss her love, constantly smiling face, positive attitude and warm Southern accent, but we know she is now looking over her two most beloved places—Sun Valley and Pawley’s Island, S.C.
