Cowboy Gathering to feature music, poetry
    The Sawtooth Mountain Mamas, a service organization in Stanley, will host the third annual Cowboy Gathering from Friday through Sunday, Sept. 5-7, in and around downtown Stanley. The event celebrates the American West and cowboys with poetry, stories and music.
    The lineup of poets, including members of the Cowboy Poets of Idaho, features Layle Bagley, J.B. Barber, Ellie Corrigan, Bobbie Hunter and Ken Wellard.
    Musicians are Jim Aasen, Dave Fulfs, Sam Mattise, The Fall River Boys, The Romriells, Prairie Wind and Wayne Hughes.
    Performances start at 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
    New this year is a Cowboy Fast Draw Competition on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6-7, presented by the Sawtooth Shootist Society. The public can try Cowboy Fast Draw safely in a free “Town Folk Alley”; participants are encouraged to wear Western attire. The competition will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday on the lawn area at Wall and Ace of Diamonds streets.
    The event also features food and a quilt raffle. Admission is free, but donations are requested. Stanley is 60 miles north of Ketchum on Highway 75.

Local bands to play at Occupy East Magic
    The band Old Death Whisper has organized a music festival called Occupy East Magic that will take place Saturday, Sept. 6, on the east side of Magic Reservoir, in southern Blaine County.
    The family-friendly festival will feature nearly 15 Idaho bands, including several from Hailey, Ketchum and Bellevue, performing from noon until “as long as necessary” into the night, with a DJ playing tunes through sunrise on Sunday, Sept. 7.
    A songwriters’ circle at 8 p.m. will be open to musicians who want to play original tunes.
    The East Magic Bar will sell drinks, or you can bring your own. Camping is encouraged. RVs are welcome, but no hookups are available.
    Here’s the artist lineup: Hurdy Gurdy Girls and Friends (of Hailey), noon; Lower Broadford Boys (Hailey), 1 p.m.; Tylor Bushman, 2 p.m.; Poke, 3 p.m.; South of Bellevue, 4 p.m.; Sheep Bridge Jumpers (Bellevue), 5 p.m.; Up a Creek, 6 p.m.; Jonathan Warren and The Billy Goats, 7 p.m.; George Devore and the Devil Makes 4, 9 p.m.; Hillfolk Noir, 10:15 p.m.; Ugly Valley Boys, 11:30 p.m.; and Old Death Whisper, 12:45 a.m.
    Admission is a $20 donation; all proceeds go to the musicians.

Stanley resort to host concert
    The Mountain Village Resort in Stanley will host a concert by three Idaho bands on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Stanley Club.
    The bands are Stone Seed (blues, folk, gypsy jazz and Americana), Bread & Circus (folk, jazz, blues and rock), and Jeff Crosby and The Refugees (rock).
    The resort is at 3 Eva Falls Ave., at the junction of Highways 21 and 75.
