Strong start for WRHS spikers

Pocatello tourney is next


     The Wood River High School varsity volleyball team enjoyed a strong start to its season Friday with 25-17, 25-19 and 25-12, 25-18 non-league wins over 3A Filer and Buhl, at Buhl’s gym.

     Seniors Haley Cutler (17 kills, 12 digs, 10 assists), Brittney Bradley (7 kills, 31 assists) and Ciceley Peavey (49 digs) led the Wolverines.

     Top contributors against Filer were Cutler (9 kills, 5 digs, 5 assists), Bradley (2 kills, 22 assists), Peavey (26 digs), Michelle Mason (4 kills) and Liz Forsling (3 kills, 2 aces).

     Leading the way in the Buhl win were Cutler (8 kills, 7 digs, 5 assists), Bradley (5 kills, 9 assists), Peavey (23 digs) and Mason (5 kills).

     Wood River (2-0) competes Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5-6 in the 28-team Highland Peg Peterson Invitational tournament at Pocatello and Highland high school gyms.

     The Wolverines are grouped in Pool A with Highland, Malad and Kimberly. Their matches begin Friday at 3 p.m. in the Highland auxiliary gym.
