Skateboarders wow crowd on Coles concrete

Waters, Brehmer post top finals scores

     Thirty-six contestants did their tricks in front of an admiring crowd as The Board Bin of Ketchum sponsored its 12th Almost Annual Skateboard Contest Saturday at Guy Coles Skatepark in Ketchum.

     Winning classes were Sam Ware (10-and-under), Jedson Waters (11-12), David Rau (13-15), Phebe Ericksen (13-plus), Nick Wojnarowicz (16-18), Colter Brehmer (19-24) and Nathan Johnson (25-plus).

     The event was a bonus-point stop on the 2014 Wild West Skateboard Contest Series (WWSCS) that features competitions at Jackson Hole, Wyo. July 26 and Sept. 6, and at Driggs Aug. 16.

     Hailey skaterboarder Waters, winner of the Street Competition in the Buckaroos 12-and-under class at the Jackson Hole competition, had the best finals score in Ketchum with a combined 36 for his two heats.

     Colter Brehmer posted the next highest finals score.

     The competition featured several of the Wild West Skateboard leaders after the first two of this summer’s events, including overall leader Jake Johnson, street leader Nathan Johnson, Canyon Bupp, Arrow Bupp and Dominic Windey.

     Here are Saturday’s finals placings in Ketchum, along with additional competitors:

     Ages 10-and-under: 1—Sam Ware 30. 2—Noah Pacheco. 3—Lachlan McFarland. 4—Kayson Jones. Others were Dylan Pacheco, Harley Pullen, Damon Beech and Dax Jones.

     Ages 11-12: 1—Jedson Waters 36. 2—Ethan Duran. 3—Arrow Bupp. 4—Jake Johnson. Others were Casen Finkbeiner, Gavin Rutherford, Angus Gilbert, Henry Munro and Aiden Drake.

     Ages 13-15: 1—David Rau 35. 2—Eli Roberts. 3—Wilder Curtis. 4—Canyon Bupp. Others were Dominic Windey, Gavin Hunter, Ethan Beech and Carson Tueller.

     Girls’ 13-plus: 1—Phebe Ericksen 29.

     Ages 16-18: 1—Nick Wojnarowicz 33. 2—Wyatt Caccia.

     Ages 19-24: 1—Colter Brehmer 35. 2—Jacob Frehling. Others were Eric Miranda and Gene Fairbrother.

     Ages 25-plus: 1—Nathan Johnson 33. 2—Chris Mattias. 3—Jens Peterson.
