Lyle and Wizard are riding in World Games

At Normandy, France this week

Ketchum’s Adrienne Lyle, 29, and the 15-year-old Oldenburg gelding named Wizard are in Normandy, France this week competing for the U.S. Equestrian Team in the 2014 Alltech International Equestrian  Federation (FEI) World Equestrian Games.

Wizard is owned by Hailey resident Peggy Thomas of River Grove Farm. Since 2007, Lyle has been the rider for Wizard. They competed in Dressage at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in England and their partnership is now eight years.

National federations from over 70 nations are participating in the world’s most important equestrian event, staged every four years. The 2014 gathering featuring over 1,000 athletes is the seventh FEI World Equestrian Games competition.

Dressage events this week at D’Ornano Stadium are Team Grand Prix on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 25-26; Individual Grand Prix Special Wednesday, Aug. 27; and Grand Prix Freestyle on Friday, Aug. 29.

Last year, Wizard was injured and sidelined for most of the season. Aiming to qualify for the U.S. team to the World Games, Lyle and Wizard moved from Hailey to Wellington, Fla. last November.

They competed well in last winter’s Global Dressage Festival and qualified for the U.S. national championships at Gladstone, N.J. during June 2014.

There, in the first stage of the WEG selection process, they finished fourth behind first-place Steffen Peters of San Diego, Ca. and second-place Laura Graves of Geneva, Fla. Both Peters and Graves qualified as the top two to represent the U.S. in France.

Lyle and Wizard advanced with five other combinations to a two-month, multi-continent contest for the third and fourth positions on the four-combination U.S. Dressage Team to the World Games. In July, Lyle/Wizard along with Tina Konyot of Palm City, Fla. and Calecto V were named to the team.

The U.S. Equestrian Team at Normandy consists of nearly 60 entries in these events: Reining, Dressage, Jumping, Driving, Para-Equestrian, Endurance, Eventing and Vaulting. Demonstration disciplines are Horse-Ball and Polo.

After the World Games, Lyle has said she and Wizard will return to Florida for the 2015 winter circuit in hopes of qualifying for the World Cup Final at Las Vegas, Nev. next April.
