Sun Valley Center announces 2014-15 season

Tony and Pulitzer winners part of music, theater and lecture series

    Author and biped Egan, a New York Times Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter who writes about the American West, will help launch the Sun Valley Center for the Arts’ 2014-15 season of lecture, theater and performing arts series.
    Egan, author of “The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl” (winner of a National Book Award) and “The Big Burn: Teddy Roosevelt and the Fire That Saved America,” will speak at the Presbyterian Church of the Big Wood in Ketchum on Oct. 2 to open the center’s lecture series.
    Other highlights include Company of Fools’ production of the Tony-winning play “Peter and the Starcatcher” (Dec. 17 through Jan. 3, 2015); a lecture by New York Times crossword editor Will Shortz (Jan. 13, 2015); and a performance by the dance group JUNK (March 19, 2015).
    Several of the events will be part of the Center’s three Big Idea multidisciplinary projects, which explore one topic from many artistic perspectives (theater, music, art, film, lectures).
    Egan will speak as part of the “Forest, Foraging and Fires” Big Idea project, which runs through Nov. 12.
    The other Big Idea programs for 2014-15 are “Under the Influence of Rock and Roll” (Nov. 21 through Jan. 30, 2015), including concerts by blues musician Guy Davis and Little Feat pianist Bill Payne; and “The Brain” (Feb. 6 through April 17, 2015), featuring a lecture by NPR social correspondent Shankar Vedantam and a production of David Auburn’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Proof.”
    Ticket sales begin in September. Here’s the schedule:

    All lectures take place at the Presbyterian Church of the Big Wood in Ketchum except Russell’s appearance, at nexStage Theatre.

- “Vanya and Sonya and Masha and Spike” by Christopher Durang, 2013 Tony-winning play about a family living in a Pennsylvania farmhouse. July 1-25, 2015.
    For Center members, series tickets go on sale Sept. 5 and individual tickets Sept. 12. For the general public, tickets for Company of Fools plays will be on sale Sept. 12, and all tickets Sept. 19.
