Two weeks until the Battle of the Blades

Tickets are still on sale

A popular local event calling itself “Bigger, Badder and Better Than Ever” is just two weeks away.

Tickets are on sale for the Battle of the Blades fundraiser for the Sun Valley Figure Skating Club set for Friday, Sept. 5 at Sun Valley Outdoor Ice Rink.

Front row tickets at the East End and West End of the rink are “out of stock,” but $52.50 tickets remain in the Center Ice Bleachers. V.I.P. tickets for $210 are still being sold.

Also, general admission adult tickets for $26.25 and general admission student tickets at $15.75 are still available.

Meanwhile, nine well-known locals—each tapped to perform with a professional skater under the spotlight Sept. 5—are taking their training seriously.

Contestants are Maggie Acker (with pro Brent Bommentre), Zach Crist (Ashley Clark), Christine Davis-Jeffers (Jonathon Hunt), Emilie DuPont (Joel Dear), Chris Koch (Stephanee Grosscup), Bob Polk (Natalia Zaitseva), George Rizzo (Darlin Baker), Scott Slonim (Kim Navarro) and Megan Thomas (Ty Cockrum).

The couples compete for local non-profits that include:

Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, Camp Rainbow Gold, the Community School, the Flourish Foundation, the Hunger Coalition, Sun Valley Center for the Arts, Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation and Swiftsure Ranch.

The top three finishers’ chosen organizations earn cash donations. Skaters receive scores from celebrity judges and via an “applause-o-meter” that gauges audience response.

Tickets are now on sale online and only online at sunvalleyfsc.com. Organizers expect the event to sell out. All proceeds benefit programs offered by the SVFSC, celebrating its 75th year this summer.
