Development threatens character of valley

As a part-time Bellevue and Shoshone resident since 1985, I have been following with dismay over the years the push by the municipalities of Bellevue and Hailey to annex surrounding land for development, be it Quigley Gulch, Slaughterhouse Canyon, and now Eccles Ranch. Such development of pristine lands would ruin the unique character of the Wood River Valley, turning it into another Aspen or Jackson Hole.
There are many vacant lots in these towns as well as empty commercial buildings on Main Street in Bellevue which could be opened to residential construction and business establishment. Money potentially spent on annexation would be better utilized for recreational purposes, such as extending the Wood River bike trail down Gannett Road to Silver Creek and beyond.
