Sentencing of Bellevue man scheduled for October

Express Staff Writer

Marcelino B. Baeza

Sentencing has been scheduled for Oct. 14 for a 45-year-old Bellevue man found guilty last week by a Blaine County jury of a sex crime against a 5-year-old girl.
The jury deliberated about four and a half hours on Thursday, Aug. 14, before finding Marcelino B. Baeza guilty of lewd conduct with a child under 16. The crime is punishable in Idaho by up to life in prison.
The jury found Baeza not guilty of a second count of lewd conduct against the same child.
According to court records, Baeza committed a sex crime against the girl in July 2013 in Bellevue. Later that month, Baeza was indicted by a Blaine County grand jury on two counts of lewd conduct with a child.
The trial started in Blaine County 5th District Court on Monday, Aug. 11. The case was given to the jury shortly after 11 a.m. on Aug. 14 and the jury delivered its verdict at about 3:30 p.m. that day.
Baeza, a Mexican national, had been free on $35,000 bond. He was taken into custody at the conclusion of the trial and remained incarcerated Tuesday in the Blaine County jail.
