Golfing for gold at with Picabo, Kaitlyn

     Local Olympic gold medalists Picabo Street and Kaitlyn Farrington were guests of honor at Ketchum’s Bigwood Golf Course Wednesday evening for the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation’s “Golf for Gold,” fundraising golf scramble.

     The John Harker Memorial Trophy went to the winning team of Milt Small, Ron Miller, Chris Edwards and Chris Zarkos with a combined score of 10-under 26.

     Claiming second place in a card-off were Baird Gourlay, Rich Fabiano, Carmen Bradley and Zach Crist with a score of 29. They tied with the third-place foursome of Olin Glenne, Dom Conti, Mike Bryce and Curt Williams.

     Street’s foursome shot 31 and Farrington’s group had a 35. Closest-to-the-pin winners were Olin Glenne and Deb Valdama. Longest drive winners were Jen Milgard and Bill Mason.

     In all, 15 foursomes took part in the fundraiser. Proceeds went to the SVSEF’s Gold Team, which helps elite athletes compete on the international stage.

     The team features 12 athletes including snowboarders Farrington and Chase Josey, free skier Tai Barrymore, alpine skiers Hailey Duke, Tanner Farrow and Kipling Weisel, and cross-country skiers Mary Rose, Makayla Cappel, Paige Schember, Miles Havlick, Ben Lustgarten and Matt Gelso.
