Two people were killed in a head-on collision shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. Highway 20 about eight miles west of Timmerman Junction in southern Blaine County.
Idaho State Police reported that Todd Combs, 39, of Eagle, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash and that Mary McBrier, 64, of Salt Lake City, was transported to St. Luke’s Wood River hospital “where she succumbed to her injuries.”
McBrier was taken to the hospital by Wood River Fire and Rescue ambulance. Wood River Chief Bart Lassman said Thursday that it took about 25 minutes to extricate the woman from the vehicle. He said she still had a pulse when emergency responders arrived but was unconscious.
“We tried to get a helicopter but they couldn’t launch because of the weather, and we tried to get a fixed-wing [airplane] but they were two hours away from launch,” Lassman said.
ISP reported that the accident occurred when McBrier, driving eastbound in a 2004 Toyota 4-Runner, crossed the center line and struck a westbound 2004 Honda Accord driven by Combs.
ISP reported that both drivers were wearing seatbelts and that next of kin had been notified.
